Re: tranny mount..HELP

Here we go again with the infamous "donut" tranny mount. This has been covered a lot on here. It's ridiculous what GM wants for that stupid mount. The nice thing is, you don't need it! All you have to do is get a regular type crossmember from any 84-92 V8 thirdgen in the junkyard, and you can use the standard style tranny mount. The crossmember can be from an automatic or manual car, it's the same on both. Try to avoid the ones that have the secondary crossmember with the two round bushings. The one you want is just a flat bar with one oval slot in the middle for the mount bolt to go through. Once you have this crossmember, you can go to your local parts store and buy an Energy Suspension Polyurethane mount for like $22, and it's far stronger than any of the stock GM mounts. The part# for the poly mount is 3.1108G. Once you get this setup, chuck that goofy original crossmember in the garbage and forget about it.

FYI, here's the one with the secondary cross member. Chances are the 'donuts' will be history if you find one (I have a brand new, still-in-the-GM bag set should this end up being all you can find in your local yards). I don't find that it's a problem, though I've never run the single mount piece.

I agree James. I wouldn't know that there would be any problems with running the "secondary" style crossmember. I just figured it'd be the most simplified to run the standard style crossmember.

As for the "donuts", they are also avaliable in poly from Summit. Made by Energy Suspension, part#ENS-3-1109G black or ENS-3-1109R red.
