Installing new axle bearings

I am just about to install new axle bearings and want to know wht i need to do exactly?

I have the old ones out, new bearings and seals, have a bearing race tool but do i need to pack the new bearings with hi temp grease or just install them as they come?

Cheers,
Richard.

They need to be greased, but not necessarily "packed". The rear end fluid will work its way up in there and lube them. Mostly you just need to make sure they're not dry the first time they hit the ground.

Thanks - i noticed that there is a little bit of metal sticking up inside the axle tube where the seal goes.. should i grind this off before i install the new seal? It doesn't look right to me, looks like it could damage the new seal...

Here is a pic...

Cheers,
Richard.

That's an interesting little bit of schmeg... can't see how it could even get there, given that that's a machined surface....

I'd get rid of it.
