Is swapping an auto to manual trans worth it?

I have a 1985 automatic v6 firebird and I was planning on putting in a 350 and dropping a manuel trans. I hate having the shifting done for me. I was hoping to get some opinions if it is worth the trouble, and was also wondering what trans, clutch etc. was needed. planning on using a stock 5.7L out of a trans am, but that one also is auto. I have no clue on going about it and dont want to spend alot at a garage. any help would be great.

The Trans am and Camaro need to come back. Tired of seeing stangs to many people have them.

There was never a 5.7 /T5 combo.

Re: Is swapping an auto to manual trans worth it?

I went through a huge amount of hassle to put a world class T5 in my second gen. I am now going through the hassle of going to a 700R4 auto. For me the stick is not worth it. It may feel faster rowing gears, but shifts are a lot faster and more consistent with an auto. The increased hp loss of an auto is made up for by it shifting faster and being more consistent. Plus an auto is a lot nicer to have in bumper to bumper traffic.
