9" Ford Problems
9" Ford Problems
I have a 1992 Camaro I'd like to put a stronger 9" Ford housing in. Problem is Moser makes a "so called" drop in, but they say it will not work with stock brakes. I just cannot believe the stock drum brakes cannot be made to work. Has anyone else encountered this problem ??? Can't the housing ends be changed - re-drill mounting holes - WHAT has to be done ???
Please help !!!

IIRC the problem is that the end of the housing is large enough to where the little weenie drum brakes these cars come with, are too small to wrap around it. Details.
You could do any of several things. Various truck drum systems are available, with larger shoes, that will fit and work; or you could swap over to discs.

If you just really want drums for some reason, just have Moser put some convenient system on there for you. IIRC one of the common ones is Explorer brakes. Cheap, easy to service (find parts for), entirely adequate for one of these cars. But just ask Moser, they'll be able to tell you what fits and works well and gives good results.

LT1 and LS1 brakes will fit, I just bought some LT1 brakes and had moser put on GM housing ends on there for LT1 brakes. No stock 82-92 brakes will fit.
