Where to find Posi unit?

Have a 92 RS V6 that's going to be converted to a 350/TH350. I'm gonna be heading to the local junkyard for a posi unit. Just have a few questions:

What series carrier do I have?

What size ring gear SHOULD have came in this car? (Please don't say it could be 7.5 or 7.625!! lol)

What vehicles should I be looking at other than camaros/firebirds?

How many splines did the 92 V6 have? 26 or 28?

Of course I'm looking for a PERFECT unit (like I'll find it in a junkyard...) but it's worth a shot.

You should have a 10-bolt with 7.625 dia ring gear and 2-series carrier with 28 spline axle shafts. That if it is factory stock? Also finding a Limited Slip in a junkyard is iffy. Camaro/Firebirds with RPO G80 are your only choices outside of s-10 pickups so I have heard.

Re: Where to find Posi unit?

A 6-cyl car more likely has a 3 series carrier. Those tended to get higher ratio gears, on average, than the V8 cars; usually 3.23 or 3.42 in that year. But as always, if you want to know what's REALLY there, take off the cover and look. It's the ONLY way to know for sure.

Doesn't make any difference if you call it a 7½" or a 7-5/8". Carriers will be the same. Gears are the same. Kits are the same. Everything is the same except the word you use for the ring gear diameter. So don't worry about what word it is.

There are NO junkyard posi units that you'll really want, with the exception of 98-up Camaro/Firebird with LS1. You DO NOT want the garbage that comes in S-10 truck, which is the Eaton Gov-Lock; and the ones that come in 90-97 F cars are Auburns, which aren't much better. 88-back and most 89s won't fit your axles. Don't get your hopes up too much on finding a junk posi that's anywhere near worthwhile.

Re: Where to find Posi unit?

Yeah, I'm not really getting my hopes up. Anything is better than what I have, but I don't really wanna waste my time if it's not worth it. They'll probably wanna sell me the whole rear anyways. Just wanted to see what my options were.

Any good aftermarket units you'd suggest? As you can tell, I'm trying to do this one a budget with a mild 350 (maybe some spray later, but not from a launch w/ slicks or anything).
