Speedo sensor
I alwais thought that my TA (1986) had mechanic speedo. I was installing a new TH700 and found out my old transmission had just a electric plug on it. Isnt my TA supposed to have a mechanical speedo?

Nonni, yes 1986 should have a cable driven speedo. Any chance you can see the sticker on the side of your ECM under the driver side dash? That would give you another clue in your wierd mystery.

Re: Speedo sensor
No, your car has exactly what it's supposed to.
The Firebird went to the electronic speedo in 85; the Camaro retained the cable system for a couple more years.

Re: Speedo sensor
Actually, it could have either.
I think it was 88 that Firebirds switched over to all electric. Before that if they had full gauge package they got the electric speedometer. If they only had idiot lights, it was mechanical. Pretty much only the base models had mechanical, but some still did.
