Is there anything different about the 93 T56 vs. the 94-97s? I thought I heard they had different gear ratios or something.

There's a guy selling one near me that is a 93 and it's a complete swap setup. But I dont want to get it if it has some weird ratios or is a weird length or something.

Re: 1993 T56

The 94 and up T56 is rated for 450ft/lbs of torque the 93 is less. It's either 350 or 400 ft/lbs, I forget which. As far as the gear ratios go, I prefer the ratios in the 93. It has a lower first gear and 6th gear isn't so high. So if you have 3.27 or 3.45 gear in the axel that should work well with the 93 tranny. If you get a 94 and up you'll probably want to get a 3.73 gear for the rear.

I have a 94 T56 in my car now with a 3.27. It's okay but I miss the low first gear that I had with my 700r4, plus 6th gear is really high. It's driveable but I'm planning to upgrade to 3.70

Re: 1993 T56

There are two different gear ratios for the 93 T56. One version that came in cars with 3.23 rear ends is the same as the 94+ T56's. (2.66 first gear, .67 6th gear) The other came in cars with 2.73 rears and has the same gear ratios as the aftermarket T56. (2.97 first gear, .50 6th gear)
Whether its weaker or the same as the 94+ T56's I do not know.

Re: 1993 T56

Those ratios are wrong. Here are the right ones.

94 and up
Rated for 450ft/lbs
1st 2.66
2nd 1.78
3rd 1.30
4th 1.00
5th 0.74
6th 0.50

93 with 2.73 rear
Rated for 400 ft/lbs
1st 3.36
2nd 2.07
3rd 1.35
4th 1.00
5th 0.80
6th 0.62

93 with 3.23 rear
Rated for 400 ft/lbs
1st 2.97
2nd 2.07
3rd 1.43
4th 1.00
5th 0.80
6th 0.62

If your running a stock engine and don't plan to upgrade much I'd say go with the 93. You should be able to get it for less money as well.
