Why can I only make my clutch slip in 5th gear?
That about says it.....I think my clutch is on its way out (or has somehow gotten oil on it) but it only seems to slip in 5th gear ('87 T5). That seems counterintuitive. I can't make it slip in lower gears, unless of course I just don't notice it then due to the noticable RPM rise as the car accelerates.
Am I missing something? I can't make it make sense?

That's what they ALWAYS do.
It's because that's when it has the least mechanical advantage on the car; or conversely, the car has the most mechanical advantage on it.
Changing the gear ratio (from 1st through 5th) is just like putting a longer handle on a wrench.
