speedometer cable trouble

speedometer cable trouble

i wasnt sure where to post this, but im having trouble putting my speedometer cable back into the transmission. does the tranny got to be in any certain gear. how bout the drive shaft, does it have to be in or can i have it off. i thought the cable was supposed to just slide in then just thighten her up. but it just wont budge. some help please.

yeah it slides right in as long as you line it up. It's sqaure shaped. then screw it right in.
