Different Question about locker
First off, I did a search and found lots of info but not an answer to my question, so if I missed the answer somewhere I appologise in advance for any redundancy. I've got an 86 Camaro, ten bolt open diff which was 7 and 5/8" ring gear that year (2 series carrier) 26 spline etc.. The thing is, I've noticed so far that everything that I've run into for it switches out with the 7.5" stuff, in fact when I put in the 3.73 gears, the gears they sent were actually 7.5". Up to this point, if it's for the 7.5" it fits on mine, figured they were the same except slight difference in stock ring gear size. Here's where my question comes in. I'm really considering putting a powertrax lock right in. Looking into it however I found a different part number for 7.5" 26 spline and 7 and 5/8" 26 spline. However when I call around no one has the one listed for the 7 and 5/8". I called tech support and they pretty much said I have to have the one for the 7 and 5/8" but couldn't tell me why. I'm just curious if anyone running one of these set ups can tell me the difference, or is there really a difference at all? I'm thinking that maybe the one listed for the 7.5" fits and that's the one everyone buys so the other part number is going away, thus the lack of availability. Sorry if this is too long and rambling. I appreciate any light anyone can shed.

Re: Different Question about locker
The 7½" carrier was slightly smaller inside than the 7-5/8". Since the Powertrax goes in there, the one won't fit in the other.
Every other part of the 2 is the same; gears are the same, bearings are the same, carriers interchange as a unit, etc. Just, the internal parts of the carrier don't.
If you want one of those units, you'll just have to get a carrier that it will fit in. They're not hard to find AT ALL. They're in ANY GM vehicle, car or truck, from 77 to about 86, with a 7½" rear. A, B, F, & G bodies, as well as S trucks and Astro vans, came with it.
Or, upgrade to newer stuff; except that the 90-up (28 spline) are quite a bit less common. Still far from rare though.

Re: Different Question about locker
im sure the safty police here will flame me for this but..... i picked up a powertrax a while back second hand for a 7.5 rear and i ended up having a 7.625 rear, so i used some carrier shims
to take up the slack and it worked great. i no longer have it in the car cause im getting a 9" in the near future and im trying to sell it.
