Not sure if this is the right place either but here it goes. My buddy has a B&M quicksilver ratchet shifter. Will this fit my 86 bird? I know a buddy of mine has a ratchet shifter in his 86 t/a but I couldnt remember what kind it was.

 

depends what the sifter was made for. I beleive the mechanism will work, but it wont work with ur console unless it was made for a thirdgen.

 

He said the shifter is for a 700r4. But it does have to be a certain shifter to fit the console?

 

yes i beleive they are specific to the console. If its for a 700r4 it'll work fine, but i beleive they offered different bases, to be a direct bolt in. The 78-81 console, was not the same as the 82-87 console for example. You could always just do a hack-job, but it wont come out as nice.

Im not 100% sure about this, check on summitracing.com, under quick silver, they'll give you different application options. Maybe the quicksilve is 100% universal.
