Make sure that you buy the carrier and gears for the housing, buy a dial indicator to check run out, the extensions to measure pinion depth, and set a side a weekend if it is your first time. Take your time and you will be fine.

yes you can swap it, ys you can do it on your own. it'd be hard to tell how well or how poorly you'd do it, but yes you can do it. most people don't either because they're scared to try or don't have to required tols.
