Speedo sending unit
I have an 89 IROC and was wondering if I could swap out the Speedo's Cable setup for an Electric setup.
I'm going to be putting aftermarket gauges in it. Probably Autometer Cobalts, silver face w/blue backliighting.
Thanks

Yes you can, it requires a new cluster from a later model and the dash cutting that goes along with it. A lot of trouble in my opinion.

Re: Speedo sending unit
I'm replacing the factory gauges with an Autometer setup, so I'm not worried about it. Just wondering if I can swap out the sending units. I might keep the cable setup since it's already installed I guess it doesn't matter as long as the speedo works. Thanks a lot.

Re: Speedo sending unit
After reading up on the Autometer setup, I found out I can get an adapter to make the Cable work with the Electric Speedo. It was 63.99, I wonder how much it would be to buy the electric sending unit that goes on the tranny. It may be cheaper to convert to the stock electric setup than to order the Autometer adapter.

Re: Speedo sending unit
Sound alot cheaper since most junkyards have the electric speedo sensor.... Probably anything out of an older 3rd gen/RWD pickup from the same era will work.. I know the 4th gens and later trucks have different pulse/mile senders so thats out of the question. Just grab the sensor and cut the plug with enough of a pigtail of wire...
