Speedo bypass for T56 swap?

Car is a 1987 IROC with 700R4 and cable driven speedo. I am currently swapping in a 1996 T-56. I already have the SGI-5c box from Dakota Digital.

Most people who swap use an autometer speedo or whatever, then run the output from that through the SGI box and into the VSS cable. I'm wondering if I can bypass the speedo for now and just cut my VSS wire off the back of the stock speedo and run it straight to the output signal on the SGI box?

I'm planning on a complete dash swap to autometer gauges, but right now I just want to get the car up and running, even without any speedometer, then I can worry about swapping gauges later.

Thanks -- Aaron

Not sure if that will work or not. Most people either have the tail shaft machined to accept a speedometer cable or use the Abbott cable X box which uses the electronic signal to turn the speedometer cable. I have one for sale if you're interested.

Nah, the entire dash panel is headed for eBay. I'm swapping in a full set of custom electric gauges once I get some cash. Just wondering if I can run the brown VSS wire right from the ECM into the Dakota Digital singal box.

I believe you have to swap out the whole gauge cluster.
