T5 Main shaft bearing cone loose
So im rebuilding the t5 in my 88. WC and it has the back or only mainshaft bearing cup that goes into the actual trans housing. Now when I went to press it it it slid right in. it seems to have a little play while sitting in the housing.
Is this normal. It will just move in or out as it pleases.
Thanks,

Re: T5 Main shaft bearing cone loose
Right.
The extension housing, when you bolt it on, holds the outer race in place. With the trans apart, the outer race is totally free to slide out - not a press fit at all. There's actually supposed to be preload on that bearing, the bearing between the shafts, and the clutch gear bearing, once the whole thing is put together.
