SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

I have the transgo shift kit and was manually shifting w/the b&m megashifter and when i go from first to second it does not shift untill redline, was wondering if this is normal or should it shift to second as soon as you put it in second, when car was stock and i manually shifted it went to second gear as soon as i shifted it. what is the purpose of the shift kit if it does not shift imediatly. thanks for all your help!

Re: SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

the shifter has nothing to do with your shift points. how much throttle are you giving it when you sift into 2nd? the factory shift points are kinda low. also, if you didn't re-adjust the tv cable after installing the shift kit, it may not shift right.

Re: SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

Unless you converted the transmission completely over to manual operation, the trans will still shift at it's shift points depending on what gear you limit it at. If you put the trans in 2nd, that means the tranny can use both first and second gear, and won't shift into second until it hits it's shift point. If you set the normal points at WOT for redline, then regardless of weather you have it in drive or 2nd, it will shift at redline every time you are at WOT. Hope this helps,

Re: SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

Maybe i'm confused i guess i don't understand then the purpose of the shift kit,if what you are saying is true then when racing i could just put it in drive and go wot without shifting it , i thought the point of getting the kit was to be able to shift when i wanted to,i could shift when i wanted to w/ the B&m megashifter when it was just stock.I would put it in 1st and it would not shift till I moved the handle to 2nd. thanks,

Re: SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

Which shift kit did you get? 87Z i think you are thinking of a different shift kit.
If you get the fully manual one, it should do what greenwolf is wanting it to do. ie: full manual control.

Because if you "shift" into 2nd, and it shifts on the shift point, that means, if you start off the line in 2nd, it will actually start in 1st and shift into 2nd later. WIth the full manual shift, that shouldnt happen. YOu should be able to put it into 2 or 3 right off the line, and it will start in that gear.

Similarly, it should not downshift, unless you move the selector.
However, transgo sells more than one shift, and the one with full manual control has to be installed a certain way. Which kit did you get? Who installed it?

Greenwolf, what about the other gears? Is it shifting how you want it to past the 1-2 point? ALso, try the start in 2nd or 3rd test, what happens?

Re: SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

If you have installed the TransGo Performance shift kit, and you want it to retain the full automatic setup "and" have somewhat full manual shifts, (this is assuming that the kit was installed correctly) you can install a heavier weight governor. This will allow you to move the lever at a lower rpm and the shifts will occur. First, did the shift points (rpm wise) change at WOT when you installed the Shift kit?

Re: SHIFTING W/TRANSGO

Hi guys, just for everyones information got a new seperator plate from dana at pro-built and that was the problem,if anyone has a B & M shift kit installed you will need to get a new seperator plate to make the trans-go shift kit work properly. Apparently w/the B & M kit it drilled new holes in the plate to up the pressure. Car is unbelievable now , shifts soft at part throttle and at wot it will turn the tires in third gear, thanks to dana for all his help, the megashifter will shift when i want it to!
TRANS-GO ALL THE WAY.
