Re: camaro diff 7.5?
Yes and no. The S-series mostly used the 7.5/7.625 axle as your F-body has also. But there is a couple different axle spline counts. What year s-series is it from?

27 spline is the pinion.
Axle will be 26 or 28. You need 28 to fit your 10 bolt in your camaro.
S10 posi's sucked, they were usually Gov-locks - just so you know.

Re: camaro diff 7.5?
Third gens and S-trucks didn't get 28 spline axles until 1990. All 10 bolts prior to that will be 26 spline axles. If both are 26 spline then yes you can use the posi in your 10 bolt.
If the posi is 28 spline then you can upgrade your third gen diff to 28 splines with axles from a 1990-1992 third gen or with some aftermarket 28 spline axles designed for 90-92 third gens.
Very few 1989 third gens will have 28 spline axles. Only those in the late part of the production year may have 28 spline axles.

Re: camaro diff 7.5?
you're in the transition year, it's like 50/50 if your car is 28 spline. (maybe not exactly, but you can't be sure without counting)

Re: camaro diff 7.5?
That carrier is almost certainly a Gov-Lock. AFAIK GM didn't use any other kind of Eaton product in those. If it has the little weights visible in the window on little pivot rods, with little teeny tiny springs wrapped around them, then it's a Gov-Lock, and won't withstand the combination of power, pavement, and traction.
It MIGHT be an Auburn; that being the other kind of posi that GM was buying at that time. Better than a Grenade-Lock; at least it won't explode and sned shrapnel throught he rear cover, and maybe even into the gas tank like one member on here had happen to him!!; but still not a very good unit. But at least it will survive on pavement where the Grenade-Lock has no chance.
About 85% or more of 89 model vehicles got the 26-spline carriers and axles. I would STRONGLY urge you to pull an axle and count, BEFORE buying parts.
I would also STRONGLY urge you not to put a Gov-Lock in your car.
In case you haven't noticed.

Re: camaro diff 7.5?
Top left is a stock Auburn 2 series from about a 86 or 87 car. Didn't know they ever put those in S trucks.
Bottom one is a Gov-Lock for some other rear, a truck 12-bolt or Ford 8.8 maybe. Iunno. I forgot.
Top right is a "high-perf" Auburn 3 series.
Sounds like yours is probably an Auburn.
Better count the splines.

Re: camaro diff 7.5?
it was out of a firebird its just i had it in my s10
Kind of like, I knew of somebody that was selling some heads once, claimed they were "out of a Vette". A guy I knew went to look at them, said when he got there the guy told him "let me go get them out of the Vette", and went to the back yard where he had 2 or 3 old Vette parts cars, and took a pair of heads out of the back seat floorboard, and said "here they are, right fresh out of the Vette".
You could have got straighter to the point and avoided the whole Gov-Lock (S-10 rear end) detour if you had asked something like "I've got a Firebird carrier, will it fit in a Camaro? It's in my S-10 at the moment."

Re: camaro diff 7.5?
Probably because it's a 2 series carrier, and the Firebird had 2 series gears (3.08 or lower); but the truck had 3 series gears (3.23 or higher)
