I have an 86 Iroc-Z LG4 5 speed. Where do i look to find out if I have the G92 rear end. It feels quick and an LG4 doesn't have any power so I'm thinking that it may have it. Someone please let me know where to look.

Same as everybody else that asks this tiresome redundant question: you look inside the housing. Take the cover off, and see what's in there. If you haven't changed the fluid lately, it needs it anyway, so while catching up on the long-overdue basic regular maintenance, make a point of looking at the gears and the carrier to see what ratio it is and whether it's a posi.

Most likely, it came with 3.08 gears and no posi, that being the standard setup for that drivetrain. But these things get changed SO often, there's no telling what's in there now, i.e. the "codes" are useless; if you wanna know, you just gotta look.

Re: how do u know what rear end you have?

Here's how to determinne what ratio the rear is (jerk the diff cover and look as Sofa mentions): numbers are stamped on the ring and pinion:

41 : 15 = 2.73
40 : 13 = 3.08
42 : 13 = 3.23
41 : 12 = 3.42
41 : 11 = 3.73

ok thanks. And it says on this site that the standard rear end for the 5 speed was 3.23 and the G92 is the optional performance rear end with 3.73 So I guess im looking for 42 : 13 = 3.23 or 41 : 11 = 3.73.

The LG4 (vin H) wouldn't have been factory equipped with 3.73's under normal circumstances.

So I guess im looking

I thought you were typing on the Internet? At least, that's all I see going on...

No substitute for ACTUALLY LOOKING. Just go look, and don't bother with all the "predicting" and "options" and "codes" and all that. None of that will tell you ANYTHING, even if it was 100% accurate (which it's not), about what's happened to the car over the last 22 years. Whatever you SEE when you LOOK, that's what it is. All mysteries SOLVED once and for all.
