my speedo jumps from the speed im goin back to zero.... and my rpm gauge is stuck past 7. is my cluster bad or some wires lose? did some "searching" and it looks like my speed sensor maybe? where is that on the tranny. i have a 91 3.1L 5spd.

Speedo sending unit is the circle with two wires coming out on the driver's side of the trans, in the rear corner.

thanks and if i make sure thats all the way in and everything is a ok then it should work? any advice on tach?

 

my tach did that for some reason once.

i turned on the car....let it come to a nice idle....then revved it hard....and the tach came down back to normal.

 

mine has been all the way over since i got it (about 3 weeks ago)

 

1st pull out the speedo sensor from the tailhousing of the tranny. Check the driven gear that comes out with the sensor. Also check the drive gear by chocking the front wheels, lifting the back tires off the ground, put tranny in neutral and have an assistant slowly spin the rear wheels. Miche need a mirror and a light to see the gear inside. Checking for broken teeth. There is the sensor, a buffer box under the passenger side dash and the cluster to also check as far as an electrical short/malfunction.
