weird noise out back
This may be kind of vague, but for some reason when im at a dead stop and cut the wheels and accelerate, such as reversing out of the driveway, stop and then turn to go down the street. there is a weird rubbing noise from the rearend, not really a grinding but it just sounds like somethings rubbing and the occasional pop. it never does it while driving straight and it doesnt do it everytime im at a dead stop either just when it does do it it bugs the hell out of me, i dont know if it is rearend related it does give the low "clunk" when shifting but its always done that, ??? i have no idea. like i said this may be kind of vague but thats the best i can describe it. everytime i get someone in the car to hear it it never does it! (typical)
also kinda been wondering about my posi being toasted maybe, what would i need to look for if i popped the cover off as far as if its still in working order?

Re: weird noise out back
Ok, this is probably the CLOSEST I've come to my situation so far, checked out a bunch of posts, seems to be similar noise, but different situation. My car has been running FINE lately, no problems, then last night, as I was driving through the parking lot, i got on it, (very little) and I felt the rear end go (CLUNK.. CLUNK...........CLUNK). There was a pause between the second and third. Today, I noticed whenever at a stop and accelerating VERY quickly I got reproduce the "noise". As soon as I let off, it goes away.
I tried it at faster speeds, in fact, I FLOORED it and it never made the noise, came to a stop and did it and it did it again. It almost feels like it doesn't like first gear, BUT the noise feels/sounds like it's in the rear end.
My car is a 92 Camaro RS 305 TBI 700r4 all stock. Thanks in advance for any help

Re: weird noise out back
It turned out my rearend lube wasnt topped off. I just filled it up all the way and threw in a bottle of GM posi additive. I dont know if you have a posi rearend, Im guessing you dont? If not then just try to fill up your rearend with some lube, and see if the noise goes away. If you do have a posi go to a GM dealership and get their additive and put the whole bottle in when you add your lube.
This fixed my problem and havent heard it since. Hope thats all it is for you too.

Re: weird noise out back
Ok, so I opened it up, and sure enough, it was low. I filled it until it started to come out. Drove it around for about 30 miles, then tried again, and still is making that horrible noise. No idea where to go from here...
----------
Only way I can describe it is, if you were to put shoes in a dryer and turn it on, it's that type of a sound, but a little more rapid.

I sure didn't, it still makes the same noise.. :-( I'm going on leave in about 10 days, it's something I plan on investigating more when I get back.
