I am doing my t56 swap in about 3 days... I was wondering if I could use my stock starter with it? I heard I might run into problems with that but I want to know for sure... People told me I would have problems using the starter I have now when I put headers on. Well, I have headers on now and it posted no problem whatsoever, so what's the deal with starter issues and T56?

T5 and T56 can use the same starter. I'd recommend getting an LT1 starter if possible though - they are more powerful and smaller (its a gear reduction starter) than a normal SBC starter. Its not necessary though, the T5 starter works fine.

 

I had the stock starter on with edelbrock headers, it fit but had a horrible "hot start" issue.

I have to agree with Air_Adam the LT1 starter is soooo much nicer.

 

I didnt have a t5... I am talking about using a stock starter with 700r4

 

My stock starter worked, but it was the smaller one used on 305s and 4.3s. Not the larger one that came on 350s.

 

mine was the big heavy 700r4 starter and it worked and fit, but like I said hot start was horrible and annoying.
