Tranny leaking when parked

I replaced the transmission and when the car is running it does not leak but after it is parked, the next morning there is a half a quart of fluid on the floor. I have taken the pan off and reinstalled it and I cannot see how there is anyway it can be leaking there. Can the fluid be leaking from the fill tube if it is not fully seated? Will the fluid get that high when the car is off? Is the bolt that holds it accessable from the engine compartment or do I have to get at it from underneath?

Thanks

Re: Tranny leaking when parked

Yup, fill tube seal.

Yes the level gets that high when parked.... unless of course it's all already leaked out below it.

IIRC the bolt that holds the fill tube on is the upper bell housing bolt on the right side of the motor; probably easier to get to from underneath. You may find either that the seal got munged during install (happens alot), or that the tab that the bolt goes through is bent, and not holding the fill tube all the way down.

or the TV cable seal is wrong/installed improper and will cause about the same leak.

Re: Tranny leaking when parked

it could be anything

jut becaus eits not leaking when its runnign doesn mean that it isnt when youre driving

youll ahve to get under the car with a rag and a light and wipe off tranny fluid and look for the leak

start with the tube seal yeah

could also be speedo carrier seal

front seal

rear seal

governer cover seal

probably not loose tranny line since you say it doesnt leak when running

youll just have to look and see

no one here can

good luck

I guess I should add that once it is about a quart-quart and a half low it no longer leaks. So it would be something towards the top of the case I suspect.
