Tranny filter, possibly a good idea?
Whats going on guys. When running a tranny cooler, would it be a good idea to run a canister style filter (almost like oil filter) inline before the cooler? Has anyone done this?. I was thinking that if something would happen to the tranny, it would prevent the debris from traveling to the cooler and ruining it. I've always been told that you should replace the cooler if the tranny goes out and there is alot of debris. And with my tranny cooler costing like $100 plus, its could save some money. Just curious on everyones input on this.

If you blow a tranny, the cooler only needs to be flushed out, not replaced. The "in pan" filter does a good enough job of filtering the oil. Just change it every few years.

The in-pan filter is the only way to filter debris before entering the pump. A cooler is nothing more than a bent piece of tubing that makes several passes back and forth through a maze of wafer material that helps extract heat as air flow through. How would there ever be an issue with flushing out a piece of tubing? If you can't flush a cooler, then the trans case and valve body are junk after clutch/pump/other failure also.
