Re: TH350 Swap

if you get a long shaft th-350 (truck transmission) with the 9" long tail then you can re use your same driveshaft.

If you a short shaft (6" long tail) th-350 then you will need a diff driveshaft. (one from the 82/83 3 speed auto, 4 speed man F body cars will work)

The swap is very simple if you get the right parts. You want the $80 B&M swap kit. It comes with the little adapter plate so the trans mount wil be in the right place, comes with a mount that bolts onto the tail shaft of trans so you can bolt your torque arm mount on it. Also comes with vac line for the vac. mod on trans., etc

Re: TH350 Swap

my car was supposed to have a 700R4 but was gone when i got it, and went to a 350TH. with the B&M bracket kit, its a pretty straight forward swap. depending on the length of the tailshaft, you may or may not have to have a longer one cut to length. obviousely you'll have to decide what your preference is with a shifter, using the stock one for ease of using the neutral safety switch and backup light switch by buying another cheap B&M bracket kit to use the factory cable on the 350TH.... of course the indicator will not be right for your trans. a aftermarket shifter will do you well but you'll just have to spend a short bit of time wiring in the neutral safety switch and backup light switch, as i said, just preference of how nice you want it to be and how much money you are willing to spend.

Re: TH350 Swap

So if I swapped to a th350, Id need either a long tail th350 or a short th350 and a longer driveshaft? Also, get the b&m kit? Anything else needed or needed to be done at all? What about the tail member?

Re: TH350 Swap

Heavychevylt4---the b&m bracket kit only gives you the hard parts. you'll have to buy the rubber bushing halves new, or take the origional ones, and grind the 2 rivets that hold each rubber bushing onto each steel piece of the torque arm mount. once you have the new ones, or old ones off, they simply nut and bolt to the B&M bracket kit with small nuts and bolts that are in the kit....a picture would be nice to explain but i dont have any.
