9-bolt axle codes

Ok ,I know this will sound dumb ,but i can not locate an axle code on either of the 9-bolts i have .I have scraped with a wire brush on the frt. of the rt. axle tube in the area between the backing plate and lower control arm mt. and near the ct. section. One is an 85 drum and the other is an 88 disc brake . Do all 9-bolts have a code stamped on them? I work in a collision shop so i have located them on , say for example Chevy trucks no problem. Can anyone send me a picture of one , or tell me where they find them. Thanks

Re: 9-bolt axle codes

The 9-bolts I have seen have a tag bolted to the cover that has the ratio on it. If the tag is gone, the rear end has been serviced.

Re: 9-bolt axle codes

you can also pull the diff cover and check the ratio as its on the side of the ring gear.
