3rd gen 1le or 4th gen?
Ive got a 3rd gen rear end with the big disk brakes and a 3.42 posi. It needs rebuilt. I've also got an opportunity to buy a fourth gen rear out of an 02 trans am for 375 bucks. It also has 3.42 gears and has the ls1 brakes.
What should I do, fix my 1le rear or get the TA rear?
Thanks for the advice.

What will it cost you to rebuild? Personally I would really try to stick with the 3rd gen rear. You won't have to deal with with tires that stick out almost 2 more inches each side in the rear. Plus if rebuilt it would be like new basically, and the 4th gen rear probably has some miles on it. Miles behind an LS1, and probably a T56 too.

Well never mind. I called the guy and told him to sell the axle, and I'll build the 1le job. I'm going to go ahead and get the driveshaft and front brakes off the TA though. 250.00 sound about right?

Hi Darkshot. Yeah, I like the idea of the third gen too, even though I'm a little tired of the iroc wheels. I'm guessing I'll probably put about the same money in the 1le job. At least my e-brake cables wont be a hassle.
