I have a 87 s10 with the engine/trans out of a 84 trans am. the 305 is about to go and Im wondering will the entire drivetrain bolt up to any small block chevy? i want to replace the 305 with a 350.

I thought I remembered reading something about a difference between engines with one piece and two piece rear main seals?

I plan to use the trans, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch etc. that Im using now. probably replace the clutch with a new one since ill have it apart.

 

It will all bolt up to a 350 except the flywheel. That is the only thing that will need to change between the one piece and two piece rear main seal.

 

well the 305 has died, a hole in the side of the oilpan to prove it.

so if the 350 has a two piece rear main seal i can use the 305 flywheel correct? if it is a one piece I need a one piece flywheel?

Is there a difference in starters and the # of teeth with the different flywheels?

 

Yes, the flywheel has to match the crank flange, which will vary with 1 piece and 2 piece RMS blocks. Your bellhousing will only fit the "small" flywheel.
