Axleshaft swap
Will an 88 axleshaft work in an 86?? Both are standard axles.
The reason I ask is that the 86 slid into a curb and bent the hub. Now the tire and wheel wobble. I have access to an 88 but was not sure if the shaft was the same in both years.
Thanks

It all depends on which rearend you have in your car and in the donor car. 10 bolt? 12 bolt? If both rearends have the same number of bolts then the axle should work.

Now you just have to worry about 26 spline or 28 spline axles. I don't remember what year they switched to the 28 spline axles in the ten bolt but a quick search should get you the information.

Yes, they should both be 26 spline units.
Part way through 1989 they went to 28 splines, but it's rare in 1989, 1990 is the for sure year.

Re: Axleshaft swap
The 86 and 88, providing they're both 10 bolt diffs, will both be 26 spline axles unless a previous owner upgraded to 28 spline axles and carrier in either.. The 10 bolt also uses the same length axle on both sides so you don't need to pull one side out if the other is easier to access.
