BW 9 bolt 3 series carrier

Hey guys,

Have an 89 IROC with the BW and 2.77 gears. I am looking to upgrade, but can't seem to find the 3 series carrier for sale anywhere. I have found the gears, 3.70's. I know it is going to get pricey, but does anyone have and leads for me.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat. How much were the gears? Rebuild kits?

Demon355,

Tis what I have found so far:
http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...ner/index.html
They have the ring and pinion as well as rebuild kits.
This is another site that carries it, but have to call for price:
http://reiderracing.com/gm734.htm

Still no luck on the carrier though. Anyone out there looking to sell one let me know.

Re: BW 9 bolt 3 series carrier

I have a 9 bolt 3 series carrier for sale but no ring and pinion gears, reused them on my new carrier and 31 splined axels. Carrier was disassembled, cleaned, cones machined and shimmed, posi nice and tight (55 ft lbs resistance) about 8 months ago. Let me know if still interested. Ring and pinion gears for 9 bolt are not hard to find. Yukon and Motive make a 3.70 ratio for around $175, but if you want geniune gears they are about $400 and are available in Australia.

Re: BW 9 bolt 3 series carrier

That carrier should have waay more than 55lbft if it is rebuilt properly. A tight one will be over 200lbft if shimmed tight and the springs are good!

Can't you find a whole axle somewhere with a 3 series?

Re: BW 9 bolt 3 series carrier

Ha, that's a LOT better!
I spoke to some rebuilders in NZ when there on vacation...these are good axles. You set the posi's up tight, remachine the stock cones if required, use Redline gear oil with NO additive, they take lots of abuse. A tight posi will clunk and bang, but the louder the better if you can stand it. It means it is working. If the posi gets loose, shoot some Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil in there..
