87 Camaro Killing
87 Camaro Killing
I have a 87 camaro Berlinetta with a 86 trans am engine and tranny (305Tpi, and a 4 speed auto with Od), my question is that whenever i drive my car around for about 15 minutes, pull in my drive way, and go to change gears it dies, the rpm goes under 500 and it just dies every time i shift it (except for neutral), it only does it after its been running it for a while, and I know the rear end is going out on it (it clunks, and the car lurches going in to drive, or reverse), and i was wondering if it is the rear end causing it to do this or what else could be doing this.
Any Help Would be appriacted, I know very little about trannys, except for how to install them
Thanks:
Tom

Re: 87 Camaro Killing
Usually the "clunk" when going into gear is a torn up transmission mount. You will have to jack the tranny up to verify this because it will look like it's fine just from looking at it.
Sometimes a u-joint is shot when you get the clunk as well...
