Somethings wrong, really wrong! Tranny has it's own mind!

First I've noticed that when I start the car it has been lunging forward a smidge. I can rev it up and it won't move. I noticed that my brakes were out so I took off the back wheel and found a bad line. I thought I would start it up and listen to it run. When I did the back DR drum was spinning and the speedo was moving. What the? I kept hearing this clinking noise and couldn't figure out what was up. I thought I dropped somehting in the motor. It was the tranny making it. So, I put it in nuetral and is was still spinning. I put it in park and it was still spinning so I put it in reverse, shut the car off and put it in park. I then started it up and it wasn't spinning. I shifted it into gear and it began to move but it will only go into park if I shut if off in reverse and then shift it into park.

I know that if that wheel is off the ground it will spin, when it is in gear, because the idel of the motor. But when it was in park it shouldn't be moving! I would assume I have a major problem. The odd thing to me is when I put it in nuetral with the wheels off the ground it should stop spinning, right?

With the wheels on the ground it shifts fine and when I drove it a little bit it shifted normal. But it wouldn't go into park, I could push the car with the tranny in the park position.

check the shifter linkage thats bolted to the driverside of the transpan. This is what happens when things get loose down there. About 99% sure thats your problem

if your positive the bracket is firmly bolted to the pan, and the bolt that holds the linkage together is tight, it may be the cable where it attaches to the shifter itself

I would concur you have a linkage issue. Try this unhook the linkage thn turn the arm fully clockwise and try that again and see if the wheels spin

Or your clutches are cooked and welded together. I had an automatic where I ran it low on fluid, and the clutches warped so bad they welded together. The car would drive down the road in neutral, and in park, it would try to go, and load up, but it couldn't because of the park pawl.

You may have a seriously grenaded trans there... The "when I start it tries to go but can't" scenario does not sound good.

I can get it into park and it starts up without anything moving so I probably have a linkage issue. I recently had the whole interior out and I could have knocked somthing. Even if its not the cables I can live with it until it shells. YeeHaw!

Might want to check the tranny mounting bolts. My friend had a 87 IROC with a remote start. He was walking across the parking lot to his car and hit the remote start button. Shortly after he watched his car go in reverse across the parking lot into a telaphone pole. Might be worth looking into.

Turns out he had 3 loose tranny mounting bolts

It will go into park now. It had/has something to do with the shifter inside the car. It's doing ok for now. Thanks for the advice.
