clutch/flywheel question
i did an auto to manual swap not to long ago. the clutch i used was a centerforce dual friction clutch. now heres the problem im having. when i go to slip the clutch, when im backing up, or wanting to move forward very slowly when pulling into the garage. the whole car will shutter. push the clutch in it stops. try to slip the clutch again, and it shutters. now if i bump the clutch it wont shutter. it will move smoothly then. could this be characteristic of the dual friction clutch. or is there something else wrong. at speed the clutch doesnt slip at all. but i do have a vibration problem around 65 mph which goes away around 70. but ill figure that one out later. one problem at a time.

Re: clutch/flywheel question
Could be that the flywheel should have been turned. Heat spots from a prior worn-out clutch is one of the things that can make them chatter like that.
Which did you install in the back of the crank: a pilot bushing, or a pilot bearing?

Re: clutch/flywheel question
is it shuddering because the engine is running at a too low of am rpm, and is almost to the point of stalling? If you hold the rpm's a little higher does it go away? does it do it only when the engine is cold, or always?

Re: clutch/flywheel question
the rpm is descent. doesnt stall out. and it always does it even when the engine is warm.

Re: clutch/flywheel question
Then if it has done that since the very beginning, the flywheel probably needs to be resurfaced or replaced.

Re: clutch/flywheel question
the flywheel is brand new though. do you still need to resurface them if they are brand new?

Re: clutch/flywheel question
just because its new doesnt mean it was surfaced properly from the factory

Re: clutch/flywheel question
Mine does that too, I think i'm going to get my old factory flywheel machined (even though it looks fine), but while I have it out - does a pilot bearing have a tendency to do this, vs a brass bushing? I'm using a roller bearing, FWIW.

Re: clutch/flywheel question
Maybe this wont help you out, but my car still has the origional clutch in it, and it chatters. When it is cold out in the morning, it does it pretty bad. But once it warms up, and the clutch is warmed up, it lessens alot. When the car is warm, and I go through a drive-thru or something, it will still faintly chatter. But it works fine on start-off's and gear changes.

Re: clutch/flywheel question
pilot bearings or pilot bushings wont cause this symptom, clutch chatter is strictly from a bad flywheel surface or pressure plate surface.
