t56 torque arm mount

I've hit a little snag on my t56 swap. I didn't relize that the torque arm mount is not the same as the auto. I need to know if I can use one from a t5 either from a third or fourth gen car. Cars with t5s seem to be easier to find parts for. I apreciate any help.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

Nope dont think so. I ran into the same snag when i was about finished with my T56 swap. Pissed me off cause it took me a week and half to find a mount while the car sat on jack stands. If i remember correctly the GM service department had one but they wanted some rediculous price for it. Anyway id call up a few sponsors they should be able to get you one i called a shop over here on the east coast and they had one. Good luck.

Thanks Stevo. Kinda sucks for me but I guess I'll start looking for someone parting out a fourth gen 6 speed.

See pics in post 3

AFAIK the 3rd gen T-5 and 4th gen T-56 TA brackets are the same. Subject of course to the usual concern with which way your TA's lips face.

You can see pretty clearly in the pics that the bolt pattern is the same.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

so if I'm reading you right the mount off a t5 will work? The pics on the other thread looked a little strange because of the tilt of the t5. I'll try to find a t5 mount at my local yard and see what happens.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

Before you waste your money at a salvage yard make sure that you have a mental picture of the way the lips face as posted above. There are two different designs. I had to get the outer bracket from gm. I think it was 30 something of course they didn't stock it and had to special order it. Best bet is to take the torque arm with you. Also make sure you have a pigtail for your reverse lockout. If not you will not be able to shift into revers with the car running. I've been dealing with this for quite some time. TPI parts sells the pigtail for 11 dollars. I just don't have access to a bank account so I can't order it and the stealership whats an arm and a leg for it.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

I'm not sure about the lip you guys are talking about. Do you mean the w shape of the arm? I've got the auto mount off so I can take it with me.

yea the flat edge and the humps on the trans end can face the trans or the outside of the car.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

Or, just get a TA at the jukyard with the right "lips" to fit your bracket, if yours don't match. Probably alot easier that way, and probably even cheaper, since those things NEVER get bought and are just scrap metal to them.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

I ran a v6 mount for years which had the lips the other way. The torque arm still slid in there, and was tighter than it was supposed to be, but it never caused a problem.

Re: t56 torque arm mount

Thanks for the help guys but I'm having a problem finding a yard with anything. No yard within a 100 miles of me has anythird or fourth gen with a stick. I'm going to check with some of the vendors here and check the classifieds to see if anyone's parting a car with a stick.
