500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
building a 500hp/tq 383 and need to build my trans to hold up, its a daily driver.
this is what i got now rebuilt 20,000 ago
kevlar band, new clutches, extra clutch in 3-4 pack, 13 vein pump, transgo shift kit, modified govnor, b&M modified upshift valve, B&M mega shifter, .500 mega boost valve, intermediate/reverse boost valve, 35% larger than vette billet servo, 50% larger than stock billet overdrive servo, deep pan, 24,000gvw trans cooler, rebuilt valve body, 1600/1700 stall converter, filled with raptor blood racing fluid. check my sig
this is what i was going with...
alto carbon fiber band, alto red eagle master rebuild kit, torque drive package(beast sun shell, extreme duty carrier shaft etc from RAPTOR transmission) but im looking at 750+ with out a 2300 converter. this would make mine a level 4 basically and good for 600hp/tq and i would reuse my servos etc
but i also looked at monster/probuilt
monster seemed cheap and there kits dont look all that special i really wanted alto cuz i heard they are the best
i looked at probuilt and this kit
https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=19&page=1
this uses borg warner hi energy clutches/kolene seals/ yadda yadda and they say 650-675hp and it doesnt use BILLET servos or alto clutches! would this kit be good? and is the kit good for my 500hp daily driver? only 580$ and i would see if they would give me $ off cuz i wouldnt need the servos/boost vlaves etc...
i dont kno about the hi energy borg warner clutches etc it says 9 clutches in the 3-4 but the altos use only 6 i think with full thickness steels/clutches and they say the Alto's are better? is this true?
any feedback would be appreciated... what kit would u get? and what do u think is the best choice? $$ is an issue

I have the probuilt kit in my car. I have 470 horse in my car and works perfect. I also have a 2900 lockup converter and works great on the street. It does not shift hard.

Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...wat to get??
yea i kno, everyone says that dana knows his stuff. its just weird seeing all these high HP kits using alto clutches/billet servos etc and only achieving 600hp/tq. and i see his kits good for 650-675 hp using borg warner hi energy clutches and a vette servo!?! i mean if the kits are that good and i can get that kinda performance outa them i would have no prob using probuilts kit, i just dont wanna get stuck in 30,000 and have to get a rebuild when i coulda gotten the alto master kit and been fine.
i had the vette servo and the transgo shift kit and the shifts where nice but the billet servos and boost valves made a huge diff. i want nice quick/firm/hard shifts tho i dont care about annoying i love a trans that shifts quick and firm i dont think i could ever get tired of it. how many miles have u put on the trans? and hows the 2-3 and the 3-4 shifts? u get tire chirp on the 2-3? which kit did u get also?
i just hope i can get some $ off cuz i dont need sum of the stuff...

I believe he is ProBuilt on the ID. And is still here. Look at their site, Performabuilt, PATC and others for alot of usefull info. This stuff they have listed is how you can learn and make a decision on what you need.
Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
I am putting together some 700R4 rebuild kits right now, so no, I haven't went anywhere (yet) just busy. What questions do you want answered?
PS: The Alto's do not work very well in the 700's, and yes, there are exceptions. The BW Hi-E's have proven themselves in many, many 700R4's & 4L60E's that I have built over the years, and the 3-4 clutch issue has not been a problem for me on these units for over the last eleven years, ever since I went with the Borg Warner Hi-Energy type of clutch. Yes, I run 7, 8, 9, & sometimes 10 BW Hi-E clutches here in the 3-4 clutch pack, depending on what is needed. The Alto's did not work well here in hi-rpm and/or high HP situations. The Raybestos Blue Plate Specials worked about the same at the drags, but are 3-4 times the cost of BW Hi-E's, and did not work well on the street. When I have them in vehicles making over 750-800FWHP with hundreds of passes, and with very little problems.......

Im lookin for similar answers. I dont know anything about rebuilding a trans, but i do have a reliable tranny guy. I was gonna buy the parts, and pay the $300 for labour.
Thanks for the insight Dana!

Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
Are the BW Hi-Energy the 2050 pack? Suposedly my tranny (by ID a 91 and code) came with that type of BW set. Its benn rebuilt, but I was wondering if I had to go that far into it, weather these BW HE clutches are what I would want? THX
Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
The 2050's are the early version of the BW Hi-E's and were a very good clutch. They haven't made the 2050 version in many, many years. In 1995 they came out with the improved 2nd design BW Hi-E's and that is what I am talking about using here.

Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
So the 2050s were a design thats interchangable with any design? If so, then I really dont need to know it had those orig to get any other set. By my ID/year/ATSG info, it had them. It had been rebuilt B4, so chances are...who knows whats in there. But if you tell me the BW HiEnergy over any other brand or model, then if I need to get new clutches, thats what Ill do. Another question, if I get a 'clutch kit' , they come with ALL clutches? Fwd, Rev, 3-4 and Overrun. How much is an entire 'kit' of clutches usually? The BW HEs particularly. THX
Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
The BW Hi-E's are for the 3-4 clutch only. Use BW's everywhere else. When will the transmission be apart? What are you needing exactly?

im gona have to take a look at performabuilt as well... thanx
oh ok, i just had my trans rebuilt to but i kno it wont hold up to 500hp/tq. what kit do u recomend for my situation? i want a reliable kit to handle the 500hp/tq for now and i'll prob supercharge it down the road so like 650-700hp? i just heard that the red altos where the best and i see them in the HiHP trans kits. so wat kit would u recomend for a 383 HSR with a 5500-6000 shift point and a daily driver. i already have a deep pan/24,000gvw trans cooler and its filled with raptor blood so temp never gets above 160degrees even in traffic in the 100degree temps.
since i have the billet servos/transgo shift kit/boost valves etc could i get the kit at a lower price with those parts excluded? part# would be appreciated as well, and let me know if u putting a better kit out too so i could wait bc im not ripping the motor out until december or later.
and if u know any tricks that i could get with the kit to give me more...i love hard firm shifts!!!!
thanks again

Re: 500+hp 700r4 build...what to get??
To answer your question Dana, you might already know Im almost done getting it back together. Since you responded to my other post with some helpful info I assume you know. But FYI I got all new clutches throughout using BWarner tan colored ones, and the black colored HEs on the 3-4 pack. Did the 9/8 friction/steels in there. Raybestos ProSeries band, new Rev Input drum, Beast sunshell, new Timken torrington bearings and the rest of the rebuild kit. I appreciate the help and keep a look out...I might need more =)
