Torque Converter and Rebuild Questions
I just got done with my new motor install and after a short drive the transmission only revs in 3rd gear. I had adjusted the TV cable but it seemed like it was shifting real soft. I had just installed a new torque converter when I did the motor swap and noticed that I have a huge puddle of transmission fluid where the car was sitting after pulling back in the garage. I am thinking that the 3-4 clutches went out and that is why I only get the rev like I hit neutral when it shifts to 3rd, but why would it be leaking fluid like it is? I am guessing that there is at least a quart or 2 of fluid that leaked out. It seemed to shift pretty good before the new torque converter and motor.
The other question is would I be ok to reuse the new torque converter that was just installed if the clutches burned up? It is a 2200-2600 RPM stall and I am running 2.73 rear end gears. Is this going to be a problem with the motor listed in my sig? Will a stock rebuild with the trango jr. kit hold up? The car won't really be hitting the strip hard (maybe only a few times to see how it runs). Any help you guys can give is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Torque Converter and Rebuild Questions
Did you get the converter seated all the way on? Turn until it clicks and engages. Where did the fluid coem from? The vent is on top just forward of center...should shoot fluid off the right side if it came from there.

also make sure your dipstick tube is seated all the way into the trans and properly bolted down. Senior Member

You really need to find the source of the fluid leak 1st. Then go from there. Dont drive it like that either.

Re: Torque Converter and Rebuild Questions
I am going to check to see if I can find where it is leaking from. I am thinking that it is the new torque converter or the front seal is leaking from when I put the new converter in. Is it possible to replace the torque converter without dropping the drive shaft and pulling the torque arm? I don't know if I can get it lowered enough without pulling those 2. I never thought about it but could a leak like that cause it to lose enough pressure that it wouldn't force the 2-3 shift?

Re: Torque Converter and Rebuild Questions
Check also your cooler lines. No it isnt really possible since the hub slides over the tranny shaft. Your talking the thickness of the converter plus the 2 inches of its hub snout to clear. Dropping it is the only feasable way. Plus you need to be sure its properly engaged if you are unsude about it B4.
Re: Torque Converter and Rebuild Questions
Though you might get away with a stock rebuild and a shift kit I think you would be better getting a built unit by the time your done they are near as reasonable and are warranted for hi performance use
