make trans tools cheap
Does anyone know the I.D and O.D of the seal installer resizer tool for the 700r4? Also has anyone made any homemade trans tools? Just looking to save money on tools so I have more money to put into the rebuild. Some of the tools look like you could make them out of different stuff from the hardware store and other tools.
Anybody make their own? Have any pics? Ideas?

For the resizer you can use a peice of flexable plastic or even a rubber hose slit down one side and a hose clamp.
Spring compression can be done with some help from a buddy and a couple large screwdrivers. Not easy but can be done.
Seal installer paper clip or if your carefull feeler guages.
Hope this helps a little did my first one that way about 25 years ago lol

Re: make trans tools cheap
I just saw the mylar/plastic trick on the hubs to get the pistons on. Paperclip is a good idea too. I rigged a Balancer puller to get the Reverse drum and the Lo-Rev springs out. Used the threaded stud/bolt fron the backside with thick and large washers to mate fhe backside flat surfaces. Screwed the balancer 3/4 arm part on the end. With it up from the spring about 3 to 4 inches, I put bolts in the 3 wide spread openings with the head of the bolts pressing down on the spring evenly. Then placed nuts on the ends of the bolts with thick washers to spread the load. Same way you use it to remove a balancer, just reversed and rigged. Ill try to get a pic. The onrs inside the Input drum were hard and I need to devise a better plan on reinstallation. =) Ive heard of also usng a stator hub from a pump as a 'Sizer' once the shaft seals are in place. Ongoing ideas for the install of them tho.

Re: make trans tools cheap
Thanks performabuilt and Mikz86TA. I was thinking of thin wall pvc pipe ripped down one side for adjustment w/ clamp but did not know if the final size was specific or not. Also maybe use a heat gun to taper one end to start the seals then slide down onto shaft.
The puller mod sounds good too. I think I might be able to mod one to do the job. I will post pics of whatever I get to work. Anybody else have any ideas or pics of homemade transmission tools? All input welcome!
