I know a guy who wants to trade me a 8.2 3.42 gear POSI for a radiator I have, is the rear end I have the correct size for an 8.2"?

No.
The 8.2" 10-bolt was discontinued in about 72 or so.
Yours is a 7½".
There were VIRTUALLY ZERO 8.2" posi rears made though; and VERY VERY VERY few had gears anything like 3.42. That rear was put in all the low-perf cars of the day; the 6-cyl cars, 2-barrels, and such. It was not used whenever "performance" of any kind was at issue. Might be worth taking a look, and seeing what he's ACTUALLY got, instead of just taking his word for it. He might have mis-identified it.
