alright so i just bought my 87 gta today. 79k miles. On the way home the car did not want to shift. It drove in first gear all the way to about 35 miles an hour no matter how much throttle you were giving it the it gave you whip lash goin to second. It never went in third gear. We didnt want to try going any faster in second gear because we were ridin in the 4-5k rpm range and we didnt want to fry the motor or have to do 80mph just to get it to shift to third. Can someone give me some helpful info that i can go on?

Replace the governor gear.

 

Get the tranny flushed and filter changed

 

im still gonna change the filter. the fluid is new. But i found out the problem was that when the guy i just bought it off of put the tranny in, he didnt fully extend the cables, so they're not lined up and thats whats causing the problem.
