Question on stock posi swap

My car has a 3.23 rear end but no G80.... sad i know lol but i have a parts car that has a 3.23 Rear with the G80 posi.

I was wondering if i could just open it up and take the posi unit along with the ring gear as a whole and swap it into my car?? i mean i should be fine reusing the input gear if they are the same ratio correct??

what should i look out for if i partake in this swap... prolly do it at the shop i work at on a lift, but ive never done any rearend work... aside from drain and refill...

Torque specs etc??
----------
btw how can i check on the axle itself to verify its a 3.23 aside from counting the teeth? anything. just so i dont undertake this for naught

Re: Question on stock posi swap

NO! You can't just swap in the ring gear and carrier, and leave your stock pinion gear. The ring and pinion wear into each other and marry each other. Like a flat tappet cam and lifters.
It'll howl like a banshee.

The ring gear will be stamped, 41:11 or whatever the ratio is for 3.23. You'll want to remove the cover just to be sure the posi is in there, in one piece.

There are a few specialty tools you'll need. A long steel bar, with holes drilled so it'll bolt up to your pinion yoke. A 1 1/4" socket (I think?) for the pinion nut (if you're going to put in the other 3.23 gears).

I think i'd just recommend taking the posi, and bolting it up to your stock gearset. You should be able to reuse your shims in the current rear end. Just replace the carrier bearings for good measure. Buy a new cross pin bolt. Make sure you have a 5/16" 6 point wrench for that.
