rebuilding a 700

so i recently put together a 350 with random parts and figure its got about 300 horse, camel humps, edelbrock cam intake carb. all that happy horsey ****. so i put a used 700 r4 behind it and figured id run it till it gave out.. problem is its not even on the road yet and as soon as i filled it it leaked all over my floor... so i figured maybe ill just pull it out and actuall attempt to rebuild it... anyone know of a company that makes a good rebuild kit that is complete as possible for this trans? ill prolly go with a b m torque master like 1900-2100 stall and a bm shift kit. i want it to break loose into second... what kind of parts would i need to make this tranny stand up to this motor? also id like to maybe build it a lil heavy cause maybe i might build a 383 out of the spare block in my garage... hopefully some where around 450 hp? any help anyone?

Re: rebuilding a 700

First I recommend against the B&M Sh*tKit unless you want it to break loose all over the road in 2nd. Second get a better converter for the money. You might as well get a Daaco for $150 and have the same quality. Next, I dont see why it needs a rebuild without figuring out the source of the leak. Leaks dont nessesarily mean rebuild. A cooler line not fitted well, TV cable grommet, FillTube grommet, or another seal. If the fluids pumping out the top vent, you either have pump problems or overfilled it. If you want the best kit all-inclusive availible, check out ProBuilts site. Their kit has the regular hi-quality bearings, seals/gaskets, torringtone, thrust washers, Hi-Po band, Hi-Po 3-4 pack to fix that problem area, good clutch sets for the rest and some have beefier 'known' parts that break like the sunshell. They have different levels. On a side note I bought a Precision of NH 2100 Stall converter from Superior Trans here in Tallahassee for $195. Looks very well built, I liked their informative site and it fit my current budget until I can buy a higher stall. http://www.gopnh.com/ is their site. And superior is http://www.superior-transmission.com/default.htm. And ProBuilt is http://www.700r4l60e.com/ Both Dana at ProBuilt and Frank at Performabuilt have given me help and guidence on my rebuild. Their profesionalism and expertise are bar-none. If you talk to Superior, ask for Kenner.

Re: rebuilding a 700

i know it doesnt mean a rebuild but i think its the front and rear seals so i might as well do something with it while its out, so what converter should i go with if not b and m? ive heard they were pretty good but from reading on this site i guess not haha... ive rebuild my entire car body work all done by me and built the motor from scratch but ive never touched a tranny... im wrking with a guy that has rebuild 350s and 400s and power glides but never a 700... you think we could manage?

Re: rebuilding a 700

If you want to pay for the best converter, Yank / Precision-Vigilante / and another one that slips my mind right now , are the best. The link I gave is a decent priced converter that is well made. They are a smaller company. For my current budget, I couldnt pass it up. I have no worries seeing the quality 1st hadn that it gonna do well. GM Hydramatics are relatively the same inside. Just more stuff in the 700. If hes rebuilt to 350/400 TH's then this shouldnt be a worry. I agree with going ahead and doing it now. Especially if its been through many miles and/or is unknown about the previous use.

Re: rebuilding a 700

Its Precision of NH, Not Precision as in Vigilante. Different company. Superior carries them. The above links should work. gopnh.com is the company in which my converter was made. I wanted a Vigilante, but its not in my funds right now for $400+ bones. The 2100 stall I got was $195. There is a core charge but they didnt charge me it.
