Re: buying a 350 not sure what tranny 2 get

the car is goin to be my daily driver but at the same time i do want some performance and get up to it. in the future i just plan on buyin a couple bolt on's like better intake and carb and headers but that'll be it.

i wasnt sure if i should change my rear gear i think i have some weak *** 2.21 or 2.14 (im not sure) but i seen people on here talk about 3.42's 3.73 and 4.11 gears and im dont know much about it so thats why im asking you guys about my rear gear and what tranny to get.

i had a 700 od tranny before but i went out, it kept slipping so i got rid of that and got a th350 that worked fine but that was on a different car. i was real happy with the 350 tranny when i had it and i wasnt sure if i should just go with that 1 again.

If you feel you don't need an overdrive then a TH350 will do fine. Although the 700R4 is a good overdrive street transmission, it has a poor gear spread for performance. The 200-4R is an overdrive transmission with a better gear ratio.

The TH350 does have it's limits and if you start breaking them frequently, upgrading to a TH400 is a better option.

do you think a shift kit and a 2000-2200 stall speed torque converter will be a good combo to add to the th350 for better launches and performance. i want my tranny built well so once i drop my engine i'll be ready to go

A 700 would be the only true "bolt-in" trans. The others all require a tq arm mount bracket or an aftermarket remote mounted tq arm. A shift kit is good(not a B&M if you decide to use a 700r) as for converter stall, talk to the manufacturer about the use of the car and the cam specs. They know better than anyone. - As for converter brands, the cheapies are cheap for a reason.

Since your car was a V6, it should have a 3.42 gear, but it is probably not a posi.

If you do a search, this topic has been covered many times, thus you will probably find more info than anyone will re-post.
