Pilot bearing options for TKOs?

Ok... So I found out that the Lakewood conversion pilot bearing, which is basically a bearing used for lawnmower decks and stuff with a knurled sleeve around it, doesn't clear the hub of the clutch. As the clutch disc wore, the hub was forced into bearing cover and caused the bearing to spin in the crank, doing even MORE damage to my motor. That, and it looks like it also caused the clutch disc to crack.

Are there any other options out there for the pilot bearings for TKO's?

I tried that one early on with terrible results. There is a stepped area in the crank to retain the stock pilot bushings. The TKO bushing rides up onto this area causing it to pinch down on the input shaft, seizing it in place. I may still try another out of desperation, though, and this time have part of the bushing cut down so it clears the step in the crank.

I used a stock Chevy bronze bushing. No problems so far.

Re: Pilot bearing options for TKOs?

I have one thats actually a mustang transmission, so the ID of the chevy bushing is too small.
