Borg Warner T-56 with Mechanical Speedo?
OK so I'm looking for some help from you guys here with this one.
I just got finished pulling apart my parts car which had a Borg Warner T-56. The thing that has me kinda puzzled is that it was a Mechanical Speedo setup which I have never seen before.
My car which is a 91 RS currently has an electrical speedo...
Is there a way to make this work short of replacing my gauge cluster with a custome one??
Also correct me if I'm wrong but the plug shown in the first picture is the Reverse Lockout Solenoid correct?
The second picture is a picture of the opposite side of the trans and that is the electrical connection for the reverse lights??
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

I've never seen one like that either. What is this parts car?
There are several things you can do.
Looks like it uses the T-5 style cable housing; so you can just get the corresponding VSS and the correct gear to match your rear end.
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...____va.htm#350
That tail housing is worth at least $300 PLUS a normal one in exchange, on the open market. That's enough to trade it out for the usual kind, buy the Dakota Digital pulse divider, and make a profit.
So there's a couple of options for you.

Do a search for "Jags That Run" and start reading.

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Par...ilHousing.html
I'd sell the modified tailshaft housing, or swap it for a stock one and get the pulse divider as well.

It's not modified.
I have one of the JTR ones in my car. I know.
This one is actually cast differently.

Re: Borg Warner T-56 with Mechanical Speedo?
Yea I think it might be the aftermarket version of the T56. It can be gotten with either a cable or electronic style speedometer.
Maybe it's just the pictures but the tail housing looks shorter than a factory T56 and the shifter mounting plate looks shorter as well which leads me to believe it's the aftermarket version.
You may be able to swap the speed senor as someone else suggested but it's hard to say if it will work. You may have to pull the tail housing off and change the speedometer drive gear. Better to do it now than after it's in the car.
Yes, the picture with the wires comming out is the reverse lockout and the plug on the other side is the reverse light switch.
It doesn't show in the picture but see if there is another switch in from of the reverse lockout. That would be the CAGS switch, all the factory camaro/firebird t56 had them. If it doesn't it's probably the aftermarket version.

Here's a nice crappy pic of a stock Camaro/Firebird one that I ganked off of an eBay listing.
The length looks about the same to me.
But you can CLEARLY see the casting differences.
Oh... and note how the shifter is different.

Re: Borg Warner T-56 with Mechanical Speedo?
From what it sounds like it might just be easier for me to do what I was actually planning on doing eventually anyway, which is swapping out my cluster for a custom built one and just get a cable driven speedo.
I'm pretty sure the T-56 already has drive/driven gears in it that are close to correct since the car this came out of had 373's in it. I have 343's and the only thing that might screw things up is the diameter of the wheels since he had 15" inch wheels and I have 18" inch wheels.

Re: Borg Warner T-56 with Mechanical Speedo?
If I get a VSS will that allow my electrical gauges to work with this T-56? If so, where can I get one and what exactly is involved with installing it?
Thanks Again Guys!

You could proabably swap in a gauge cluster from an 85 - 89 Camaro since that uses a cable speedometer. I would think that would be an easy swap.
