Rear Axle Code?

I'm trying to find out what kind of axle I have, i.e. the gearing and if its open or limited slip, I cannot find the stamped code on the front of the right axle tube but i can see a casting code or something on the differential case. Can this tell me what the gearing is? And is there any other way to determine if its limited slip short of taking off the differential cover? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

No. AT BEST, it might be able to tell what the gearing WAS when that rear left the factory. Won't tell you a damn thing about what's in there now.

How could there possibly be?

What's the big deal about that? Why is everybody so reluctant to LOOK at their parts?

Changed the fluid lately? I thought not. Then it needs it. Make a point of inspecting the gears and carrier while you're catching up on the long-overdue regular maintenance.
