trans problems
700R4 in a 92 rs with a 305. I was just driving it one day when it started mess up. I have park nuetral reverse, but only 1st gear, it wont shift out of first, even when tryin to shift it manually.
Im wondering if the detent cable didnt come loose down in the trans. up on the tbi i can pull the dentent cable out towards the front of the car about 1 1/2 - 2 inchs. Isnt it suppose to be alot tighter?
I would appreciate any and all help.

Re: trans problems
no, with the throttle in the idle position i can pull up (towards the hood) about a inch, and the push the cable down towards the intake a inch also.
I just know the tv cable tells the trans when to shift, and i figured if it came loose or frayed in the pan then it wouldnt be able to read the throttle postion to tell it when to shift.... sound like the problem???

Re: trans problems
just sounds like it is loose/ mis-adjusted. if that is the case, it prolly burnt the 2/4 band and that is why you can't upshift out of first. the 700r4 is real sensitive to that cable.

Re: trans problems
Yep, sounds like you fried the intermediate band. did the symptoms happen all of the sudden, or did the symptoms become more prominant over time? If you want I can stop on over some time at look at for you.
Cheers!!!

Re: trans problems
pop the govenor cover off and check the teeth on the govenor shaft.
Re: trans problems
how many miles are on it.....it could simply be that u just need to service and flush your tranny ( filter, fluid, gasket)......
ive had it happen; start off small.....check all the little things first...
good luck man
