open rear to limited slip?

hey guys currently i have 2.73 gears and an open rear in my rs. I wanna put in a lsp 3.23 out of a z28 i picked up. I got the whole thing except it doesnt have brakes on it. Can i just swap out my rear and put this one in? or is there something else i need to do since in going from open to lsp?

Re: open rear to limited slip?

If both rear ends were originally drums then yes just swaping the entire rear would be the way to go. If the rear you bought was setup for disk the flanges will be different and you won't be able to bolt your drums on. Your only option then would be to get the disk setup to go with the rear or swap the gears and posi into your housing....which is not the easiest thing to do in your garage, and not suggested for the beginner.

I would venture to say the rear you bought had disks on it which is why they took them....no one wants drums. If the flange is rectangle shaped with a ~1" hole in it then it's setup for drums. If it's more square and just has a few bolt holes in it then it's setup for disks.
