governor install

After all this, i have narrowed it down to governor...

ill work on getting new governor monday, but untill then, i would like some information..

I have hte 700r4.. is the governor on the passenger or drivers side?

how do i get the cap off?

Turn 1/4 counter clockwise, pull out... Put in- turn clockwise 1/4 push in...

Do i ahve to drop the transmission at all to get the cap back on? do i need gaskets or anbything for the cap?

Should i replace my TV cable while im down there? i got a TPI one out of the junkyard...The bottom of it, where it connects to the tranny, the black plasic piece, slides up out of rhte cable, but i slid it back on and put some electrical tape around it, is that a problem? Can the cable be to stretched?

Thanks!

1) Drivers side
2) With ascrewdriver and hammer, tap it off from behind the flange.
3) The governor cap uses a large square cut seal, that I normally smear a thin coat of rtv on.
4) Tap the flange edges only when reinstalling. Smacking the center of the cap will dent it, binding the governor. It used the cap to set the governor endplay.
Replace the tv cable with a new GM unit. The aftermarket cables suck.

Re: governor install

Ok,, got the cap off.
The governor wont come out.. i have tryed pulling, turning, pushing, turning, everything..

After i remove the big circle cap, do i need to take something off the governor assembly before it will come out?

Thanks!

Re: governor install

It should twist and spin out by hand. Perhaps the plastic gear is chunked.

Re: governor install

got it out, it all looks fine?!

Are the gears suppose to be like curved a little? If so, its fine.. i can probally get a pic, i dont know..

So if its not the governor what is it? it wont shift out of first.. Rarely it will go into second, but thats not too often...

Is it the TV cable that could be the problem.. I got it from a junkyard, the cable came loose from the plastic piece that bolts on the transmission... but i slid it back in and electric taped it... Ran the cable, bolted it down, adjusted it and no matter what adjustment you make on the cable it makes no difference..

So could it still be the governer? one side of the governer spring is real easy to push, while the other is harder...

Or is it the TV cable?
Or something else i need to look into.
Thanks...

Re: governor install

My car is having the same problem. Someone suggested 2nd 4th band.
