Interesting revelation about speedo gears

So tonight I was looking at an electrical speedo driven gear an a mechanical driven gear. I was pretty sure that I could get an electrical gear to fit on the mechanical shaft. I whipped out the Dremel and cut the gear on the mechanical shaft off (I tried to pull it off like an electrical gear, but no luck). Then I just snapped the electrical gear onto the mechanical shaft. It just snapped right on, no problem! Not sure if this is a well-known fact or not; I've read some posts that said this wasn't possible. Just thought some of you might find this interesting.

Yup; works like a charm. The gear itself is the same, all it needs is to be adapted to the shaft.

It's a little harder to go the other way though (put the tooth part of a mech gear onto a VSS).... the company that made those D-shaped drill bits went out of business.
