Upgrading to 4 Speed from a T-5 (heh)
Well,
My car is an 89 formula 305 T-5 car, no-rust, beautiful project car. (3.08? I think; LSD rear, 10 bolt w/discs)
So, the T-5 has seen better days, last owner beat it half to death, I think the input shaft is worn, and it has a bad synchro (2nd, ach!)
I am looking to build a 350 for the car eventually (350-400HP), and know that the T-5 will not want the torque I will apply occasionally.
So, it looks like a 4 speed would be the best option, does anyone know what would need to be changed on the vehicle to accept a Richmond T-10 or other 4 speeds (Borg, Munice (M22),).
I know that the crossmember/ torque arm would need to be changed, which I would go with the Spohn setup i suppose. But, I am wondering if the bellhousing and clutch setup would work; along with the position of the shifter hole in the floor/console. I suppose the driveshaft would need modifications aswell.
Then I suppose another issue would be that I have a VSS not a cable
But, I need to find a viable option and a T-56 does not look like as ideal of a situation as a 4 speed.
And this is not quite speculation, I will be doing a transmission changeup this winter, and would like to get the plan in motion within a month. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. And I love suggestions.

Why have you ruled out a T56? It can handle that level of horsepower and provide two overdrives.

It does not seem as good on the price/performance ratio. I don't really have a strong need for anything more than 1:1. They are more difficult for me to find, especially at a reasonable price.
I personally do not think that an average working condition manual transmission should sell for more than like $600. Sure, that idea defies logic, seeing that everything has it's price but, for a stock part like a T-56, or a rebuilt T-5, the price should not be very high.
Look at it this way aswell, if I buy a parts car with a T-56, the trans does not make up $1000 of the value of the car like some people are trying to sell them for.
Surely I would not mind a nice 6 speed though. But, I'm not looking to dump huge loads of cash, just loads, hehe.

Considering that this topic has been absolutely BEAT TO DEATH on a recurring basis in this forum, what have you learned from all the existing posts on the subject now that you've read a handful of them? Like, the one that's on the second page? Any specific questions that haven't been answered or concerns that haven't already been talked about (which I seriously doubt there could be)?
