Speedometer Gears T5
I know this has been covered thousands of times.....
but after searching for about 2 hours (thats not a joke) I couldnt find any clear info here...someone says that..another one this...I've got headache now...
Wich drive and driven gears does my WC T5 need for my 91 Z28 with the G92 (3.23 rear axle) and electronic VSS??
I've got a red drive gear (9tooth) in the tranny that I'll be swapping in...
there should be a sticky thread for this as you can find dozens of threads about this issue and that does not help searching the right info
any help would be greatly appreciated!
greetings from old europe!

Re: Speedometer Gears T5
You don't need a 9-tooth; IIRC you need a 7-tooth (purple/blue) and a 19-tooth driven.
Speedo gears are so easy to calculate, and so variable because of tire size, that it's not worth having a sticky. You just gotta figure out what YOU need, which is nothing but some simple arithmetic, which I've posted more times than I care to recall, after which some goob always posts what the factory used, which might or might not work for YOUR car. Kind of like having one to tell people that 2 + 2 = 4: not necessary.
(I can only hope...)

Re: Speedometer Gears T5
thanks!
I've got the factory wheels so the 7 tooth Drive and 19 tooth driven would be fine I guess...
but the 19 tooth driven is out of stock at the transmissioncenter and I dont know where to get one so I have to go with the 22 tooth (and reuse the 9 tooth drive I already have).
GM dealer is not an option for me....I'm waiting over a month now for my clutch cylinder...just an example.. :-(
btw I found the formula now to calculate...

Re: Speedometer Gears T5
Check here:
http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/t5speedo.asp
Its a Ford T5 site but it lists the right gears for all T5's. GMs use a 7 tooth and 9 tooth only, but that site doesnt list 9 tooth gears.
7 tooth and 19 tooth is for 3.42/3.45 gears. You need a 7 tooth and an 18 tooth for 3.23's. I dont know if they're still available.
